Our PURPOSE

Tagalikha’s purpose is to create community spaces for Filipino/xs to explore the culture of the diaspora and motherland through creativity.

OUR VISION

Through Tagalikha, Filipino/xs globally will be empowered to use creativity beyond optics, wielding it as a tool to take actions of solidarity across physical and cultural borders.

Our Team

Why we exist

In 2017, Tagalikha started out of a need for Filipino community in creative spaces where we seemed absent. It began as a blog, where three Filipinas interviewed Filipino creatives across NYC. We have since evolved into a small team who cultivate community spaces for Filipinos all over the world, where we teach each other, chika and explore our culture and identities using creativity.

We are always evolving to the needs of our community and our volunteer-run team. Watch this space for updates as we grow.

Land Acknowledgement

This acknowledgement is a work in progress as we continue to learn how to support Indigenous people, beliefs and lands.

We are on stolen land. We are made up of a mostly immigrant team based in the US.

As Filipinos, we understand how it feels to have our cultures denied, our ways colonized and people oppressed by a dominating power. Then feeling the trauma of that generations after.

Some members of our team organizes in what is colonially known as the United States. We live on territories that were originally stewarded by the Lenape (Brooklyn, NY), Tiwa (Albuquerque, NM), Paiute (Las Vegas, NV) and Ohlone (San Francisco, CA) peoples. As settlers in these lands, we acknowledge that both financial, physical and power reparations need to be made to Indigenous Peoples. We are building systems to commit to these reparations as we create safe spaces for the Filipino community in Turtle Island and all over the world.

We are open to recommendations of how we can continue supporting Indigenous communities both in the diaspora and homeland, email us at tagalikhablog@gmail.com.

As an artist and creative, I couldn’t help but express my gratitude for Tagalikha. They act as a hub for making meaningful connections and continue to produce soul-enriching events and content which brings together Filipinos and people from all walks of life. Just recently, I had the pleasure of hosting a workshop together with the team– which gave me a platform to share my passion of storytelling and illustration. And thanks to their thoughtful and efficient organizing, the entire experience felt so easy and seamless. I cannot recommend Tagalikha enough! Any interested parties looking to promote creativity, positive change and meaningful experiences will find nothing but goodness in this team and movement, and can look forward to fruitful results from start to finish.

From our community

I’m very thankful to Tagalikha for giving me space to talk about the less glamorous aspects of pursuing a creative career that I wouldn’t normally be able to publicly speak about. After the talk, quite a few attendees reached out to me, appreciative of how transparent and honest the talk was. This felt unique to Tagalikha and the kind of community they foster; they helped me feel like I was not alone in my journey. From the pre-event kamayan (family meal) to the post-event meet and greet, it was clear that everything revolved around a genuine effort to build community.

As an immigrant and self taught artist in NY, my journey has been a whirlwind of doubts and triumphs. Being invited to speak at Tagalikha’s Mahal or Mahal panel was a career highlight. Rebelling against a culture that prioritizes financial stability and people’s expectations of first generation immigrants is the heart of my art practice. With Tagalikha, I found a tribe that celebrated my defiance. The space they foster is lush. It is warm, open and it is genuine. The connections I made through their events and community makes me feel like home.

Thank you Tagalikha for asking thought-provoking questions, and giving me a voice!
